Another day and another closer injury and this time it is Detroit Tigers stopper Shane Greene who hit the 10-day DL early Monday with what the team is calling a right shoulder strain. With Greene having run hot and cold all season as one of the more shaky closers out there, it always seemed like the Tigers were simply trying to build up his value so they can flip him at or before the July 31 deadline. Those plans could be scuttled now that Greene is injured and so the immediate add has to be impressive setup man Joe Jimenez. The hard-throwing Jimenez always seemed like a future closer as he has the requisite high-K ability to make a good stopper and in 2018 he has been good with a 2.77 ERA and 10.15 K/9 rate. Meanwhile, Greene may just cede the closer role outright to Jimenez if the latter does well like I think he will and so this could be a changing of the guard moment. Add Jimenez everywhere.
