The prospect train is letting off quite a few passengers of late and now the Minnesota Twins are getting in on the fun as they reportedly will call up top pitching farmhand Fernando Romero to make his MLB debut on Wednesday versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Widely considered one of the very best prospect in all of baseball, Romero is just 23 and so far has recorded a 2.57 ERA and 8.57 K/9 at Triple-A. In terms of the makeup here, Romero is a heavy groundball pitcher which is always a good thing operating in the AL and he has a fastball that can reach the upper-90's. That also has helped Romero keep the home runs in check which is another plus in his pitching column. While the strikeouts have been solid, Romero has mostly been a mid-8.00 K/9 guy which is good but not great. The problem Romero has is that like most young pitchers, his control can be very shaky. Walks will be an issue early on and so Romero may not have a sparkling WHIP right away. However, he can help in ERA and strikeouts and pick up a few wins if the Twins keep him up. Romero is worth an add in most fantasy baseball leagues, with just shallower ones where he is not an automatic pickup.
