2018 FANTASY BASEBALL WELCOME TO THE SHOW: JAIME BARRIA SP LOS ANGELES ANGELS

After losing J.C. Ramirez to injury and wishing to continue the team's six-man rotation, the Los Angeles Angels decided to bring up 21-year-old pitching prospect Jamie Barria to make his MLB debut Wednesday.  While we always like to be kept abreast of the arrival of all the various pitching and hitting prospects, Barria is not exactly a "run to the wire and make the add" hurler.  In looking back at his 2017 performance, Barria posted decent numbers but he lacks in the one all-important statistic that matters in today's game and that is strikeouts.  Taking things apart some, Barria logged a tidy 2.48 ERA at Single-A in his 65.1 inning stint there last season and then followed that up with a solid 3.21 mark at Double-A.  Terrific ERA's no doubt but Barria's K/9 during those campaigns?  Try just 7.85 and 6.86 respectively.  Especially with the latter number, Barria's lack of strikeouts is going to really drop his margin for error and the chances of getting hit hard increase in the AL compared to the NL.  So while Barria does possess excellent control to help himself through the lack of K's, he really should only be picked up in AL-only formats given his lack of punch.  While it is always exciting when the prospects start to arrive, this one is not that significant when it comes to potential fantasy baseball impact.
