2018 FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: STRIKING GOLD ON LORENZO CAIN

There are just some things that have extra clarity to yours truly each fantasy baseball drafting season in terms of guys who I just feel of going to be tremendous producers but at the same time, not cost an arm and a leg in terms of ADP.  The guy who stood front-and-center on this list for me was Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain who has always been a solid/underrated player who can contribute in all five categories but who always came at a nice price at the draft table.  The reason for the latter is because while Cain does help in all five standard ROTO categories, he doesn't no crazy in any of them which allows his price to dip.  Despite Cain carrying a bit more hype this spring due to his signing with the Brewers, he still came at a very tidy price which is why I was so high on him in the first place.  I drafted Cain in both of my competitive fantasy baseball leagues and forecasted an uptick in numbers across the board from his K.C. Royals norms.

Fast forward to present day and Cain has been an absolute monster so far in going a collective 9-for-22 with 4 runs, 4 RBI, 1 home run, and 3 stolen bases.  The Brewers have been a very aggressive running team under manager Craig Counsell and so Cain has the green light to go whenever he feels like it.  With Cain still showing his .300 hitting ability, running wild. and likely seeing an uptick in home runs in his new offensive park, the heights could be significant here for a guy who is a firm veteran.  Cain was among a group of early sleepers I recommended who have been very good so far, joining David Price and Kenta Maeda in such a grouping.  This is looking to be a fun ride with Cain but no surprise from this vantage point.
