2018 FANTASY BASEBALL PROSPECT WATCH: NICK SENZEL ON VERGE OF PROMOTION

While we are still a few weeks from prime prospect arrival time due to the whole Super 2 mess, it appears as though the Cincinnati Reds are ready to make a move to bring up top infield prospect Nick Senzel.  In fact, there are already reports that Senzel will be up by the weekend and the loss of Eugenio Suarez to a broken thumb increased the timetable there.  This is a major actionable move and in fact, Senzel should already be owned where available given the massive amount of talent here.  Let's dig in a bit deeper here to find out what Senzel is all about from a fantasy baseball perspective.

In terms of background, Senzel was originally the second overall pick of the 2016 MLB Draft and so right away you get the idea of what a prime prospect the kid is.  Then there are the numbers and last year at Single-A, Senzel went nuts to the tune of a .305 average with 4 home runs and 9 steals and then followed that up with a scorching .340 average with another 10 homers and 5 steals at Double-A.  Clearly, we are talking about a sizable power/speed talent and the fact that Senzel is on the doorstep to the majors at just the age of 21 speaks volumes to the upside.  Making things even more impressive was the fact Senzel drew a bunch of walks and kept his strikeouts to a minimum last season in the minors and so he has the classic look of a perennial .300 hitter in the majors as well.  So in essence, Senzel should be right there as a five-tool infielder and that could start happening soon after his promotion.

Now in terms of the promotion, the Reds have said Senzel is not going to be called up immediately to replace Suarez but there are also counter reports suggesting they will as they prep him heavily at third base in the minors.  Again, you need to pick up Senzel in every league he is available and quick because this kid is going to take off real soon.
