2018 FANTASY BASEBALL CRISIS POINT: JAMES PAXTON SP SEATTLE MARINERS

It may seem a bit rash to do a Crisis Point on any MLB hitter or pitcher when the season is not even a week old but that thought goes out the window when it comes to Seattle Mariners pitcher James Paxton.  The narrative on Paxton over the last three years has pretty much been set in stone:  he is one of the best pitchers in all of fantasy baseball when healthy but you may not find a more injury-prone player at any position in the entire game.  Paxton's fantasy baseball owners have lived with the extreme risk the guy provides due to his annually excellent ratios and K/9 rates but 2018 has brought a new concern to say the least.  For one thing, Paxton was absolutely destroyed pretty much for all spring training as he posted an ugly 8.27 ERA and gave up 5 home runs in a little more than 16 IP.  Still, the thought was that Paxton would be just fine when the season started but then his initial outing Saturday happened and boy was it ugly.  Paxton was knocked out after just 4.2 IP as he gave up 6 ER on 6 hits and 4 walks and 4 K's.  His initial 2018 ERA now stands at 11.57 and one has to wonder if in fact Paxton is pitching hurt since he got bombed all spring as well.  As I wrote on Twitter, Paxton doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to health and so his fantasy baseball owners already have to wonder if things are going to go off the rails
