2018 FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSING TIME: KYLE BARRACLOUGH LOOKS LIKE MARLINS CLOSER WITHOUT OFFICIAL WORD
Stating the obvious, we all knew Miami Marlins "closer" Brad Ziegler was about as big a ninth-inning fraud as you could get when the 2018 fantasy baseball season got underway and even the most desperate for saves had to think twice about bringing the human fire torch onto their rosters. Predictably, Ziegler blew up right away once the season began (giving up 4 runs in 1.2 IP on March 30th) and that downright hideous appearance likely gave manager Don Mattingly second thoughts about his bullpen arrangement. That seemed to be the case watching the bullpen maneuverings of the team Tuesday as the hard-throwing Kyle Barraclough pitched a scoreless ninth in an extra-inning game, while Ziegler came on in the 10th. So Barraclough technically pitched in the closer spot and already this season he has 5 K's in 3 scoreless innings. Clearly, Barraclough is the better pitcher of the two and his extreme strikeout stuff is a perfect match for the ninth. Yes Barraclough walks too many batters but we can live with that as long as the K's continue to pop. So while Barraclough is likely picked up in most competitive leagues, it doesn't hurt to take a look to see if he s still lurking out there.
