2018 FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSERS I WILL AVOID

We put to bed our annual feature of hitters/pitchers yours truly will target or avoid this season by looking at those closers who will not be part of my draft plans this spring.

FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSERS I WILL AVOID

Kenley Jansen, Aroldis Chapman, Craig Kimbrel, Felipe Rivero, Corey Knebel, Wade Davis:  These are mostly the top tier of 2018 fantasy baseball closers and since they will command the highest price, I won't likely be owning any of them.  Remember last season at this time this group included Jansen, Chapman, Zach Britton, Seung-Hwan Oh, and Mark Melancon.  All but Jansen went bust to some degree or another.

Alex Colome:  While the raw save totals have been there the last two years, Colome is dangerous in that he doesn't miss bats at the high rate that most top closers do and he also could be traded at any point.

Jeurys Familia:  Already we have heard New York Mets rookie manager Mickey Callway talk about how he wants to use some sort of committee in the ninth inning this season and that makes any potential stopper on the team a potentially bad buy.

Shane Greene:  Yes Greene strikes out a high amount of batters but his walk totals are horrible which could quickly spiral things out of control.  I have little confidence Greene makes it through the whole season as the Tigers closer.

Blake Treinen:  Was awful in throwing the closing gig away with the Washington Nats before rebounding and finishing nicely in adding saves with the Oakland A's.  I simply don't trust the guy.

Fernando Rodney:  While I admire how long Rodney has been able to hang around as a closer, I wouldn't look here for saves in any way, shape, or form.
