2018 FANTASY BASEBALL ISSUES: CRITIQUING LINDY'S TOP TEN

A few days ago we introduced our top 12 or 2018 fantasy baseball in terms of what the first round SHOULD look like in typical mixed leagues.  We, of course, like to critique other sources however and Lindy's just recently released their top ten on their annual magazine.  Before delving into it the analysis of their picks, here is who made their top ten list.

1.  Mike Trout
2.  Jose Altuve
3.  Paul Goldschmidt
4.  Giancarlo Stanton
5.  Charlie Blackmon
6.  Nolan Arenado
7.  Carlos Correa
8.  Trea Turner
9.  Clayton Kershaw
10. Joey Votto

And here is what our top ten would have looked like if you pared down our top 12 column from a few days prior.

1.  Mike Trout
2.  Jose Altuve
3.  Giancarlo Stanton
4.  Paul Goldschmidt
5.  Bryce Harper
6.  Aaron Judge
7.  Mookie Betts
8.  Carlos Correa
9.  Nolan Arenado
10. Charlie Blackmon

So as you can see, we pretty much agree on the top four (save for us putting Giancarlo first given his chance of hitting 65 homers or more in calling Yankee Stadium home this season) but we diverge wildly from there.  Now I don't like to take to task other publications but not having Bryce Harper in top ten is ludicrous and putting Trea Turner there is a repeat of last year's mistake.  Yes, Turner got injured last season which deprived himself of possibly putting up first-round numbers but guys shouldn't be placed there on a forecast and instead should be there on having put up that type of production already.  Also, Kershaw in top ten coming off a second straight season of serious injury is way too risky and in fact, we like Max Scherzer and his durability a bit more in the SP rankings.  Also no Judge or Betts?  Betts' average slipped last year only due to a fluky and very unlucky BABIP dip.  Everything else was excellent.  Meanwhile, Judge and his 50-plus homers deserve to be there as well.

So what you do you think?  Whose list is better?  Answer below.

  1. I like your top-10 a bit better but think you both missed by omitting Jose Ramirez, who will deliver same numbers as Mookie Betts but at 2B. I wouldn't include Judge on account of his .228 BA in the second half. Arenado is too low on both lists given three consecutive years of unbelievable video game-like numbers. I would probably pick him third.
