2018 FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSING TIME: BRAD HAND MY NEW CLOSING OBSESSION

When it comes to addressing the closer position in yearly fantasy baseball leagues it is no secret how I always have subscribed to waiting on addressing the position until the middle rounds.  I will never pay the freight on top closers as they are too one-dimensional and prone to trouble (see Zach Britton, Aroldis Chapman, Seung Hwan-Oh etc. last season) to ever be worth using a high pick on.  Instead, I have focused on high-K closers who are a bit off the radar and on that front, I hit it big with Greg Holland, Raisel Iglesias, and Sean Doolittle last season.  All late round picks who had tremendous seasons.  This season my eye has fully turned to San Diego Padres closer Brand Hand who just got a whole bunch of closing job security once he inked an extension with the team.  A fireballing setup man entering into 2017, Hand finished the season with the closer role and a very bright outlook regarding the ninth innings.  The numbers were simply insane:

3-4
2.16 ERA
0.93 WHIP
104 K in 79. 1 IP

The 104 K's were the second straight season Hand punched out 100 or more and with an early ADP that is still affordable, he is the perfect closer candidate for those who choose to wait on the position.  Hand is a guy I want on all of my teams this season and in the middle rounds I will be aggressive here.  So should you.

2018 PROJECTION:  4-4 2.24 ERA 0.91 WHIP 102 K
