Possibly receiving word that free agent Eric Hosmer would not be coming to the team, the Boston Red Sox pivoted to re-sign first baseman Mitch Moreland to a two-year deal on Monday. Moreland gets the $13 million in the deal and he comes off another solid-but-boring 2017 campaign where he hit .246 with 22 home runs and 79 RBI. Moreland has always been good for between 20 and 25 homers but the rest of the statistical package leaves a lot to be desired and his overall impact in fantasy baseball is that of a backup in mixed leagues. Clearly the move to sign Moreland won't get Red Sox Nation pumped up.
