The Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up fantasy football Week 16 with a decent game Monday night. Here are the fantasy football story lines emanating from the game.
-Once again Falcons QB Matt Ryan failed to come through in a decent matchup as he completed 17-of-31 passes for 212 yards with 1 TD. Ryan has now tossed a grand total of 2 TD's in his last three games as the Steve Sarkisian offense has been an ill fit from the start. Then again, I said back in August Ryan would be a bust as his draft price soared way too high off his MVP campaign. Those i 2 QB formats should look elsewhere if you advanced to the title game.
Meanwhile on the other side, the Bucs' Jameis Winston was quite good as he completed 27-of-35 throws for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns. This is the Winston most expected when he went as a moderately high draft pick this past summer as he carved up the Falcons defense. Unfortunately it likely came too late for 90 percent of his owners.
-Devonta Freeman was a running fool Monday night as he rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries; while adding 5 catches for another 68 yards. Freeman has pretty much shed any timeshare with Tevin Coleman and re-affirmed his standing as a top RB 1 in all fantasy football formats for the third season in a row.
On the other side, Peyton Barber got the start for the Buc's and did what he could in rushing for 53 yards on 13 carries; while adding 3 catches for another 15 yards. Barber has a future in Tampa Bay; while Doug Martin does not; and this should carry over into 2018.
-Boy does Julio Jones aggravate the hell out of the fantasy football community. Presented with a plush opportunity against a leaky Tampa secondary, Jones managed just 3 catches for 54 yards in a dud of a performance. By now we have to accept that Jones is somewhat of an enigma who is allergic to scoring touchdowns. He should move back toward the end of Round 1 in 2018 drafts.
Meanwhile, Mike Evans took himself out of the witness protection program as he hauled in five balls for 79 yards and a touchdown. It was the first touchdown for Evans since Week 7 and he technically caught another one but he was called for a pushing-off penalty. With both DeSean Jackson and Cameron Brate in walking boots after the game, Evans should be heavily targeted as a last man standing deal next week versus the shoddy Carolina secondary.
