The San Diego Padres are clearly in rebuilding mode as the Hot Stove Season gets into high gear but the team has made no secret its desire to spend heavily on free agent first baseman Eric Hosmer. Hosmer is coming off a career-year campaign in 2017 where he hit 25 home runs, drove in 94, and batted .318 for the Kansas City Royals to set himself up for a big payday but the Padres may not be a strong enough suitor if he is looking to latch onto a contender. On a related note, Padres All-Star first baseman Wil Myers has already said he would move back to the outfield in order to accommodate Hosmer and in terms of fantasy baseball, that would add eligibility there once again which he doesn't currently carry going into the 2018 season. Myers has really developed into a tremendous and very rare power/speed first baseman but his numbers would be very valuable in the outfield as well. Things are really starting to get going now in the Hot Stove season as the Winter Meetings get set to launch next week and Hosmer figures to be front and center in all of this.
