The New York Yankees have opened dialogue with the Chicago Cubs on a potential trade involving reliever Dellin Betances for DH/catcher Kyle Schwarber. Both Betances and Schwarber are in need of new locales after very rough 2017 campaigns for both but the talks are just in the preliminary stages. As far as Betances is concerned, the hard-throwing reliever butted heads with the Yankees front office last spring after a rough arbitration hearing and then he struggled so badly in the second half of the season that then-manager Joe Girardi was hesitant to use him in the postseason. Meanwhile Schwarber struggled so badly during the first half last season that the Cubs sent him back down to the minors to find his swing. While Schwarber hit just .211, he did slam 30 home runs in just 486 at-bats and could easily crack 40 in Yankee Stadium. The trade makes sense on a lot of levels but the Cubs are also rumored to have asked for Yanks prospect Domingo Acevedo as well. Stay tuned on this one.
