2017 FANTASY BASEBALL POSTSCRIPT: SCOOTER GENNETT 2B CINCINNATI REDS

Of all the eye-opening offensive performances in what became the 'Year of the Home Run' in 2017 fantasy baseball, the insane statistical haul provided by Cincinnati Reds veteran second baseman Scooter Gennett stood out above all others.  Having failed to even reach double-digits in home runs in three of his first four MLB campaigns, Gennett unlocked a burgeoning force in his bat as he exploded to the tune of 27 home runs and 97 RBI last season.  Always a solid average guy, Gennett also batted .295 with 80 runs scored to do a fairly good Daniel Murphy impersonation.  It truly was one of the all-time outlier campaigns in recent memory however and so right away we have to be somewhat skeptical of Gennett reaching those heights again in 2018.  While it stands to reason Gennett gained some additional power as he just began reaching his prime years last season, a jump of 13 homers from 2016 is going to be tough to fully accept.  At the very least, Gennett is a .300 hitter who will give you nice counting numbers in RBI/runs and whatever power you get is a bonus.  Since most in the fantasy baseball community are also likely doubting a Gennett 27-homer encore, the draft price should make him worth pursuing again this spring despite any expected numbers fallback.
2018 PROJECTION:  .298 18 HR 90 RBI 84 R 4 SB
