When ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert may be facing season-ending back surgery, those in the fantasy football community immediately began to ponder what this meant for backup Tyler Kroft. Having missed the last three games with no return on the horizon, it certainly looks like Eifert stands a good chance of going under the knife and that means Kroft's already intriguing fantasy football upside becomes much more prominent. Kroft has managed to become an instant weapon in the Bengals' passing attack; catching a total of 13 passes for 124 yards and 3 scores in place of Eifert the last three weeks and it looks like QB Andy Dalton is trusting in him more and more as the season goes on. So while Kroft was looked at as a placeholder for those dealing with the numerous injuries that have befallen the tight end position this season, he now could be knocking on top ten status with Eifert out of the way for the remainder of 2017. If Kroft is still available on your league's waiver wire, pick him up immediately as he at the very least can be a terrific backup and someone who can easily help in a pinch. Meanwhile Eifert should be cut in all leagues as he was not even playing well before the back flared up again.
