2017 FANTASY BASEBALL WELCOME TO THE SHOW: AMED ROSARIO SS NEW YORK METS

Yes the heading is not a misprint.  Finally after literally months of waiting, the New York Mets will promote top shortstop prospect Amed Rosario to make his MLB debut Tuesday despite the fact the team failed to trade Asdrubal Cabrera to open up some more room.  However with Cabrera being a candidate to start everyday at third base next season, the move will work more to the detriment of Jose Reyes who will now be more of a utility man.  Be that as it may, lets dive right in on the superb talent that is Rosario.  Widely considered a top three overall prospect in all of baseball (and even number 1 in some parts), Rosario's numbers from Triple-A look like this as he begins his Mets career:

.328
7 HR
66 R
58 RBI
19 SB

Now before we go forward, it must be said that Rosario was playing in the offensive haven that is the PCL and so a bit of a dial bc kc on expectations are needed right off the bat there with the numbers.  HOwever the talent is tremendous as Rosario controls the strike zone already at he age of 21, has speeed to burn, and is developing power that many believe could end up in the 20-plus range.  Looking at the advanced numbers, we see just how good of a contact hitter Rosario is already with his tiny for a 21-year-old 15.8 K/9 rate.  That is very low for someone his age and that alone will help him post .300 averages for years.  Yes you would like to see some more walks (5.4 BB/9) but that will come with maturity.  The 19 steals who just how much speed Rosario has and again while 7 home runs is not a high number (especially in the PCL), the kid is just 21 and will surely grow into it there like we have seen this season from the similarly talented Francisco Lindor.  And it is Lindor I have said all along who Rosario is which is quite the compliment.

So while it is a bummer we get just two months of Rosario, at least he is here and now we get to see him do what he does.  It should be very exciting and it wouldn't shock me in the least if Rosario in two months becomes the "it" guy who vaults himself to top tier draft status next spring.
