2017 FANTASY BASEBALL TRADE DEADLINE REPORT: ASTROS, DODGERS IN HEAVILY ON ZACH BRITTON

By Michael Wong

-It is looking more and more certain that the Baltimore Orioles will trade All-Star closer Zach Britton and possibly in a matter of days.  The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros are the two most heavily involved.  The Washington Nationals have not jumped in with both feet just yet but they too are monitoring things closely here.  Baltimore team brass has seen enough good stuff from Brad Brach closing games to feel confident he can be the guy and so that is the main impetus for the increased chatter around Britton.

-The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees are also looking for bullpen help, with David Phelps becoming a popular topic among the two.  The Yanks have also looked in on A.J. Ramos but the Marlins asked for Clint Frazier which quickly ended the discussion.

-Speaking of Frazier, the Chicago White Sox wanted him AND Gleybar Torres for Jose Quintana which was not going to happen.  Yanks GM Brian Cashman has said repeatedly that he won't move his top prospects but I am hearing he will listen on Jorge Mateo who is starting to figure things out.

-It is all quiet on the Justin Verlander front as he is having a bad year and is vastly expensive.  Bad combination for trades.

-Addison Reed is getting the most trade attention for the New York Mets but nothing doing on Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera at the moment.  Also the Mets are not looking to move lefty reliever Jerry Blevins who would command a nice prospect.
