The Miami Marlins rotation is reeling, what with injuries and the remaining gaping hole left at the top due to the death of Jose Fernandez. As a result of a starting pitching shortage, the Marlins have decided to move setup man David Phelps back into the rotation; a spot where he excelled during the second half of 2016. While his 4.05 ERA and 1.35 WHIP at the moment are high, Phelps has been a averaged better than a strikeout per inning the last season-plus and again he pitched very well as a starter for the Marlins down the stretch a year ago. Phelps has a vast enough of an arsenal to be a decent SP 5 upside add from the start of his rotation stay and given the plethora of injuries among pitchers in 2017 fantasy baseball, this becomes a bigger story than it would appear to be on the surface. Try Phelps out in deeper fantasy baseball leagues and monitor how he does in shallower formats. The guy has good skills and of course the strikeouts to help you.
