2017 FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: MATT HARVEY SP NEW YORK METS

It looks like thoracic outlet syndrome has claimed another victim.  Following the sudden career destruction of Noah Lowry, Jeremy Bonderman, and the drastic curtailing of stuff from Phil Hughes and Josh Beckett, throw former New York Mets ace Matt Harvey into this unfortunate fraternity. Already with a Tommy John surgery under his belt, Harvey was making his return from last summer's TOS procedure which is extremely serious for pitchers and often saps arm strength that never returns.  With a full month of the season in the books, Harvey has been nothing short of a disaster as he got his head handed to him by the Atlanta Braves last night and now sits with the following numbers:

5.14 ERA
1.29 WHIP
3.34 BB/9
1.80 K/9
5.14 K/0

No matter where you look, there is nothing but ghastly numbers.  Clearly Harvey has lost the sizzle on his fastball as his K/9 has sunk to BELOW mediocre levels.  Harvey now struggles to hit 93 on the gun. whereas he once was a consistent 98 guy.  On a related front, the loss of his fastball has allowed opposing pitchers to tee off on Harvey stuff and his HR/9 rate is insanely high.  The home runs are flying out all over the place now for Harvey and opposing pitchers are comfortable facing him now.  Finally, Harvey's control is now brutal as he is losing the feel for his stuff.  Put all together and Harvey is one big mess this season.

While there was some hope that Harvey would be able to come back to maybe SP 3 level, he is nothing other then an SP 5 by the looks of things.  Harvey is also being cut now in some leagues and it is not an outlandish idea either.
