So much for Odubel Herrera being the five-tool fantasy baseball outfielder worth targeting on the Philadelphia Phillies for 2017. It has not been Herrera but sudden sensation position-mate Aaron Altherr who has become the fantasy baseball story in Philly, with another exclamation point coming Wednesday when he hit not one BUT two home runs in the team's matinee. This followed another bomb on Tuesday that has further elevated Altherr to a prominent spot in fantasy baseball. Altherr is not up to 7 home runs on the season to go with a scorching .351 batting average and thus he has the fantasy baseball community running to the wire to check on his availability. While this might have snuck up on us a bit given the fact Altherr has not even been an everyday player this season, the tools have always been apparent as he has hinted at power/speed ability in the past. A late bloomer at the age of 26, Altherr is looking like he is now putting it all together as he taps into his prime this season and the Phillies might have no choice but to continue playing him on a daily basis. While his 25.0 K/9 rate is high, Altherr is offsetting that with a very impressive 11.3 BB/9 which has boosted the average. Throw in the power and speed and Altherr could be putting together a pure breakout season that warrants attention everywhere. For now pick up Altherr everywhere and play him on a daily basis to see where this goes.
