2017 FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: ALEX WOOD SP LOS ANGELES DODGERS

26.  That is the age of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood.  The same Alex Wood who seems like he has been around forever.  The same Alex Wood yours truly touted very highly as recently as 2014 when he was looking like a pitcher headed for stardom.  As we often see with young pitchers (and hitters for that matter), there is hardly ever a straight and narrow path to upper-level performance.  So after some recent stops and starts, Wood became somewhat of a forgotten man heading into 2017 fantasy baseball despite his youth and the fact he was quite good in 2016 in logging a 3.73 ERA and 9,85 K.9.  Wood only logged 60.1 innings though as he battled injuries and so those numbers failed to make much of a dent in the fantasy baseball community.  Fast forward to present day and Wood has taken advantage of another chance to stick in the team's rotation.  Going into Tuesday's action, Wood has posted the following numbers:

2.29 ERA
8.69 K/9
0.97 WHIP

No matter where you look, Wood has been terrific and he has more than reached the point where he should be owned by someone in all fantasy baseball leagues.  Remember that Wood has always been able to miss bats and his ability to keep the ball in the park (0.46 HR/9) helps him overcome some walks trouble (3.66 BB/9).  That walk rate is in outlier territory for Wood who generally has been in the 2.90 range and so all the numbers are really looking swell.  Given the good ballpark he operates in, Wood very well could be on his way to having a very good value season in fantasy baseball.  Keep trotting Wood out there as he still is looking like a pitcher who is ready to break out.
