On and on it goes. Another day and yet another injury as the San Diego Padres placed lefty starter Trevor Cahill on the 10-day DL Wednesday; robbing his owners of one of the few feel-good developments of the fantasy baseball season. Cahill suffered a right shoulder strain which necessitated the DL stint and it was backdated to May 14th. The real shame of it is that Cahill was pitching very well as the latest Padres Petco Park value play starter as he compiled a 3.48 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and an excellent 51 's in just 41.1 innings. The strikeouts jump off the page here as Cahill made a previous career out of being both a mediocre starter and reliever; while posting shaky to poor K/9 rates throughout. Cahill went to work on his release and mechanics the previous winter however and that added some zip to his stuff as we can see with the uptick in K's. Throw in the pluses of pitching in Petco and Cahill was serving as one of the best SP 5's in fantasy baseball before the shoulder went bad. If you can however, try and stash Cahill as he is a must start at home at the very least and his strikeouts have been very helpful.
