Since we operate here in New York, we have been accused of slanting a bit heavy on the New York Mets and New York Yankees given their proximity to us. Hence after watching Jeurys Familia meltdown Wednesday night against San Francisco where he gave up four runs to blow the save in spectacular fashion, Giants players remarked when meeting with the media that they didn't see the usual sink on his stuff. They also remarked how his fastball seemed a tad slow as well. Fast forward to Thursday and we find out Familia has a arterial clot in his pitching shoulder that will force him to fly to St. Louis to see a specialist. While nothing has been confirmed yet, there are already numerous reports that Famila will need surgery and be done for the season. This of course is a devastating blow to Familia's fantasy baseball owners and Addison Reed will now go back to closing for the Mets like he was doing when his bullpen mate was serving his 15-game suspension to begin the season. Reed has proven himself to be a solid reliever and a capable closer and so he takes on a sizable amount of immediate value. Also let Familia's injury serve as a reminder that NO closer is safe from injury and sudden underperformance and so drafting one early is about as bad a strategy as you can get each season.
