On an on it goes with the insane amount of injuries around fantasy baseball in 2017 and Tuesday brought forth a big name hitting the DL as the San Francisco Giants placed closer Mark Melancon on the 10-day disabled list with a mild pronator strain in his elbow, There was no indication prior to the DL placement that Melancon was injured and so Bruce Bochy has to give some more clarity here once the game with the New York Mets is over. Since this is an elbow injury, count on Melancon being out at least two weeks and likely longer. The fallout here is that Derek Law is the likely choice to move up to the closer role and he has had a good season so far in logging a 2.40 ERA and struck out a closer-like 14 batters in 15 innings pitched. Still Law is far from a sure thing as his 1.53 WHIP is very high and indicates his 2.40 ERA has gotten some BABIP luck (.364 mark there). Still Law pitched to a splendid 2.13 ERA last season and so he has some track record to fall back on. Hunter Strickland could also be involved but all signs point to Law being the guy. Run and pick him up.
