The New York Yankees have called up top pitching prospect Jordan Montgomery according to manager Joe Girardi and he will serve as the teams fifth starter going forward. Montgomery was dominant in the minors for the Yanks last season, pitching to a 2.55 ERA at Double-A and then 0.97 at Triple-A. During that time Montgomery (originally a 2014 fourth-round pick) struck out batters at an 8.53 and 9.00 K/9 rate at those levels respectively and he added a big spring training as well. Montgomery has swing and miss stuff and has only gotten better during his development. While pitching in the AL East is rough, Montgomery can work nicely as an SP 5 with nice upside this season.
