The Texas Rangers made embattled closer Sam Dyson take a vacation on Monday when they placed him on the 10-DL with what the team is calling a hand contusion. There was never any mention of the contusion after Dyson took a blowtorch to his third save chance of the season (of which he has now blown all three) and which rose his ERA to a horrid 27.00. It is likely the Rangers wants Dyson to clear his mind and at the same time stop hurting the team. Meanwhile manager Jeff Bannister said that Matt Bush would get the first crack at closing but that he would not get every chance. Basically this is Bannister not putting all the heat on the untested Bush who has had some major off-the-field troubles in his past and it keeps Jeremy Jeffress somewhat involved if the former falters. Obviously Bush needs to be picked up in all formats but Jeffress can stay on the wire in more shallow formats. Meanwhile cut Dyson loose as I can't imagine any scenario where he gets back to closing.
