2017 FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: TRAVIS D'ARNAUD C NEW YORK METS

                                                              Travis d'Arnaud

Could THIS finally be it?  Could the long wait for the hitting emergence of New York Mets catcher and former consensus can't miss prospect Travis D'Arnaud finally be over?  By the looks of his monster game Thursday night, that certainly seems to be the case.  Long a D'Arnaud apologist on this site, I have taken my fair share of abuse for supporting his ability through all those lost seasons to injury and poor performance but the overall upside was too vast to ignore.  Well after going 4-for-6 Thursday night which included a late home run (his second of the year) to help the Mets beat the Miami Marlins in 16 innings, D'Arnaud how stands with a scorching .333 average with the 2 knocks and 9 RBI.  While Rene Rivera is still catching Noah Syndegaard exclusively, it appears the Mets are ready to ride D'Arnaud going forward with his terrific play.  Keep in mind that D'Arnaud overhauled his swing during the winter with renowned Mets hitting coach Kevin Long, shortening his swing in the same manner that Long did with Daniel Murphy before he went crazy in 2016.  Now we are not saying D'Arnaud will have the same type of vast bump in offensive numbers like Murphy but this is now a continuation of a big spring where he hit .333 with another 2 home runs.  As always ride the hot bat as long as it lasts but in D'Arnaud's case, the talent could be here to stay.
