One of the more interesting players to follow this past spring training no doubt had to be Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon. In the running as a fantasy baseball MVP and winner of the NL batting title in 2015, Gordon of course tested positive for a banned substance early last season which earned him an 80-game ban and the scorn of everyone. Then when Gordon returned, his average went right back to being the liability it always was outside of 2015 which now clearly was "enhanced" to some degree or another. During his partial stay in the majors last season, Gordon hit a listless .268 but he still did the job on the running side with 30 steals. As 2017 fantasy baseball drafts got underway, Gordon saw his ADP slide drastically from the year before given the steroid stain and we for one were interested to see how his bat would handle during the exhibition season. Well the results are in and they were not exactly glowing as Gordon batted .237 in 59 at-bats and stole all of 3 bases. Now we all know Gordon is going to run all day and night but now the average is a concern which was the same aspect that led the Los Angeles Dodgers to give up on him in the first place. If Gordon is hitting .260, his big stolen base numbers are not as glowing as they could be. We have not seen evidence that Gordon can hit for average when he is not on the juice and so his 2017 fantasy baseball outlook is quite dicey. I did in fact draft Gordon in the Experts League but that was only because I got him at a steep discount and the value relative to the round was good. I am only going to use him as needed when it comes to steals and that is it. Your thoughts on Gordon? Post below.
