The Chicago White Sox play their opener on Monday and at the top of the lineup will be speedy infielder Tyler Saladino who is expected to man third base until super prospect Yoan Moncada is ready. Having earned some prospect attention given his big stolen base numbers in the minors, Saladino didn't embarrass himself in his 2016 debut with the Sox as he batted .282 with 8 home runs and 11 steals in just 319 at-bats. Those were quite useful fantasy baseball numbers from a guy who was simply a waiver add and Saladino wound up having a nice exhibition performance that allowed the Sox to allow Moncada more seasoning on the farm. Now Saladino has been handed the leadoff spot to begin the season where his big-time speed will certainly make an impact and his developing pop is also becoming an increasing asset. A 19.4 K/9 rate last season passes the smell test but Saladino needs to walk more than the tiny 4.1 BB/9 mark he had as a rookie. If Saladino is sitting there on your waiver wire, by all means add him and see where this goes. Well off the fantasy baseball radar, Saladino could be a nice surprise this season.
