Here we go already. Coming off what could only be described as a horror show season in 2016 when he pitched to 4.37 ERA in the first year of an insane $172.5 million dollar contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, starting pitcher Zack Greinke is already causing stress to the team and his fantasy baseball owners after he got blasted in his spring outing on Wednesday. Greinke wound up yielding 2 runs and 6 hits in just 2.2 innings as he was not fooling anyone but the biggest issue was the fact his fastball sat only in the 88 range. It was only a few seasons ago where Greinke was a monster 200-plus K guy who powered in fastballs routinely in the 95 range and now what we have is a massively stripped down version of his former ace self. What really makes this a potentially disastrous situation is the fact that Grienke is closely paralleling the career of Jered Weaver as a guy who also was a huge strikeout artist earlier in his career but who now is barely hanging on with the San Diego Padres as his fastball is down to the 84 range. Obviously with such a light fastball, Greinke won't be striking batters out at a decent clip anymore and he will also continue to get battered the way he has been since the beginning of 2016. This is becoming a disaster all the way around here for Greinke and those who already foolishly drafted him. If you haven't drafted, place Greinke squarely in your DO NOT DRAFT list.
