Ugh. As a fantasy baseball owner of Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, the words from manager Dusty Baker on Friday were not what I wanted to hear as he basically came out and doubted that his star pitcher would be ready to go for Opening Day. Scherzer has been a big storyline in fantasy baseball this spring given the fact he is still feeling pain from the fractured knuckle in the middle finger of his pitching hand and he has had to alter his grip on the ball when throwing bullpen sessions this spring. Instead of using his standard two-finger grip, Scherzer has used three which no one knows how effective his stuff will be with the new approach. With Scherzer having not even made a spring start yet, he is simply running out of time to be ready for his Opening Day assignment which led to Baker speaking those fateful. It was this concern that led me to draft Chris Archer and Jacob DeGrom with my first two picks in the Experts League Draft last Sunday and so I am now prepared to be without Scherzer for a good chunk of April. Not the start I wanted that's for sure.
