Spring training has not even begun and Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins is already dealing with shoulder trouble. After having his 2016 season almost completely derailed with never-ending bouts with shoulder soreness, Perkins was aiming to reclaim his status as a top-level closer for the 2017. A planned bullpen session was going to be Perkins' first attempt to make good on that goal but the outing was scratched after the lefty felt renewed soreness in the shoulder. Having been described as a "catch," the fear all along has been that Perkins would need invasive surgery and never be able to return to the team as a dependable arm. That threat is now being magnified given this latest bit of news and so as a result, Brandon Kintzler needs to be bumped up even more in your closer rankings for the upcoming fantasy baseball season. Unfortunately, Kintzler should be right at the bottom of the 30 closers on your cheat sheet as he has been a punching bad at the major league level until 2016 when he somehow posted a 3.15 ERA despite a horrific 5.80 K/9 rate. Flat out, you don't find many closers who succeed with K/9 rates under 7.00, let alone 5.80. Yes Kintzler has great control but this is a disaster waiting to happen. Yes saves are saves but Kintzler might be too much trouble to even be worth drafting.
