2017 FANTASY BASEBALL ISSUES: ALEX REYES INJURY SERVES AS CAUTIONARY TALE WHEN DRAFTING YOUNG POWER PITCHERS

It seems like it has been annual feature of ours to trot out the warning line regarding drafting young power arms under the age of 27 given the ever-increasing Tommy John cases that are piling up among this group.  It seems like each and ever year we get more cases that fit this profile and now just one day into spring training, we can likely add St. Louis Cardinals pitching phenom Alex Reyes to this unfortunate class of pitcher.  Already we have seen Stephen Strasburg, the late Jose Fernandez, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, Zach Wheeler, Jacob DeGrom, Adam Wainwright, Carter Capps, Carlos Carrasco, Joba Chamberlain, Yu Davrish, Patrick Corbin, Alex Cobb, Nathan Eovaldi, Lance Lynn, Daniel Hudson, and Jarrod Parker as a HUGE list of recent cases and many big names among them.  In fact we can say this is a clear epidemic and so that brings us to once again identify those starters who are "classic" prospective cases.  We talked about many of these names before but each of these hurlers fit the mold of being young and hard-throwers who need to be scrutinized more closely when weighing whether or not to make a pick here.  In fact things have gotten so bad that I am almost myself to the point of going veterans all the way like a Max Scherzer or a Cole Hamels instead of someone from this list.  In order of how we ranked them in the 2017 Fantasy Sports Boss Draft Guide, this is who makes the list this season.
