2017 FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSING TIME: KEEP A CLOSE WATCH ON CARTER CAPPS IN SAN DIEGO

Back when I first published the 2017 Fantasy Sports Boss Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide, I made it a point in the closer section to talk about the Tommy John surgery comeback of fireballing reliever Carter Capps in San Diego.  The 2015 sensation (1.16 ERA, ridiculous 16.84 K/9), Capps and his hop-step prior to unleashing his 100-mph heat looked like the next great strikeout closer candidate.  Alas like most young and hard-throwing hurlers, Capps succumbed to Tommy John which opened the door to the Padres buying low on him midway through last season.  With the Padres now in full rebuild mode, Capps all of a sudden has a prime chance to be a candidate to close games for the team in 2017 and thus serve as a slam dunk sleeper candidate.  I already spoke about how using a late round pick on Capps is a tremendous idea and even more so now that he is already throwing off a mound.  While Brandon Maurer is expected to have the inside track to the closer role, his nasty 4.52 ERA last season show he is not ideal for the ninth inning.
