After much haggling and empty threats from both sides, the Toronto Blue Jays and slugger Jose Bautista came to agreement on a free agent deal to reunite for at least the 2017 season. Bautista failed to find much of a marketplace for his services despite the fact he has been among the best power hitters in the game the last six years. A one-year deal with an option are being floated about but the 36-year-old figures to split time between first base, DH, and the outfield once again.
Analysis: With home runs and power way up last season, Bautista is simply not as valuable as he once was. He is still capable of 25 home runs and 80-plus runs and RBI but his average is quite shaky given his career-long strikeout struggles. He is nothing more than a low-end outfielder 2 who is getting by now more on name brand.

Will this have any impact on Edwin? More lineup protection, no?
ReplyDeleteNo Edwin in Cleveland.
DeleteSorry, meant Donaldson*
DeleteYes they will help each other really but out of the two Bautista will be pitched to more since his bat is slowing a bit and his age.
