Given the insane explosion of top tier hitting third base talent that has emerged over the last three seasons in fantasy baseball, it is easy to overlook other breakouts at the position that are bit further down the rankings ladder. A guy who fits this mold is the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Jake Lamb who went nuclear with the bat in 2016 in swatting 29 home runs and collecting 91 RBI. Having had his initial two seasons in the majors interrupted with serious injuries, Lamb was never really able to hint at what was to come a year ago. We will take it however as Lamb showed some serious power and run-driving ability in the middle of the D-Backs’ lineup. Now all that power came at the expense of Lamb’s batting average; which at an ugly .249 was not a small problem. Striking out at a 25.9 K/9 clip will more than do the damage there and Lamb’s near-neutral .294 BABIP means there was no bad luck involved. For Lamb’s fantasy baseball stock to really take off, he needs to move his K/9 rate closer to 20.0. Until that happens, he will be mostly a back-end starting third base option.
