Championship week is already underway as the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles got underway last night. With Saturday games set to go tomorrow, let's check out the final injury news from around the league.
-The Washington Redskins have labeled tight end Jordan Reed as questionable for Week 16 but there is a very high probability he won't be able to go. That means Vernon Davis becomes a decent stream option at tight end in a week where Reed, Tyler Eifert, and Rob Gronkowski are all out. As far as Reed is concerned, he has not gotten over the third-degree shoulder separation suffered on Thanksgiving and once again a promising season has been undermined by injury. On talent alone Reed is right there as the best offensive tight end in the game but you always have to factor in injuries when you draft him.
-Antonio Brown is probably licking his chops right now after learning that Baltimore Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is OUT with an ankle injury. As their number 1 corner, Smith was slated to cover Brown in Sunday's game. That means Brown should have an easier time to get his numbers which have dipped over the last three weeks. Brown is one of the very best wideout options for fantasy football Week 16.
-Jesse James is another tight end option for those in need this season as Ladarius Green is unlikely to go due to the concussion he suffered last week. Green is much like Jordan Reed in that he can't ever stay healthy but at the same time he shows big ability.
-While he is listed as questionable with a knee injury, Cincinnati Bengals running back Jeremy Hill is expected to go against the Houston Texans. Hill has had his second straight disappointing season in a row and even with Gio Bernard out, he has not been able to take advantage of the chance to be more than a low-end RB 2.
-Melvin Gordon is OUT Sunday due to the knee injury he suffered in Week 14 and once again the carries will be split evenly between Kenneth Farrow and Ronnie Hillman. Neither guy is worth starting given the split and the fact both guys were not impressive in a plush matchup last week.
-A.J. Green is being listed as questionable but the Bengals but he is a full bore go Sunday. With Tyler Eifert OUT with a back injury, Green should see a very high amount of work from QB Andy Dalton and be a top WR 1 option.
-Lamar Miller is questionable for the Texans with a stubborn ankle injury and he stands about a 50/50 chance of playing. In fact there us growing doubt Miller will be able to go which adds another annoying timeshare situation with Alfred Blue and Akeem Hunt. Blue could work as a RB 2 in standard formats but Miller and his bellcow work is a decent loss in the championship week.
-Forget about Matt Forte playing this week as he is listed as doubtful with both a shoulder and a knee injury. Bilal Powell will be a major workload guy this week against the New England Patriots but he likely will do most of his damage in the passing game given his opponent's proclivity in stopping the running attack.
