FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: ROYALS TEAM OF THE HOUR

By Michael Wong

National Harbor, MD.--The Kansas City Royals are currently Ground Zero Monday night when it comes to trade chatter.  They are engaging both the Chicago Cubs and St, Louis Cardinals on closer Wade Davis, causing a division battle for the fireballer.  The Cards are also very interested in Lorenzo Cain who the Royals seem determined to ship out.  Offering up Cain and Davis is the Royals admitting they can't sign all of their upcoming free agents the next two years and a retooling is the current plan.  Plus they are set at closer with Kelvin Herrera so they want to sell high on Davis before more elbow trouble surfaces.

-Was in front of GM Brian Cashman when he said the New York Yankees were not in on Brian Dozier.  Seemed sincere.

-Jon Daniels surprised us all here when he basically said not to Mark Trumbo and Edwin Encarnacion by saying no DH signing in the plans.  Could be posturing but this no doubt will hurt their markets.

-Don't discount the Boston Red Sox jumping in on Trump or Encarnacion as the prices continue to fall.  It is starting to look like Encarnacion in particular is becoming this year's Yoenis Cespedes in terms of being a free agent bust a year ago.

-The Pittsburgh Pirates were asking for both Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles and that is why the Washington Nationals have moved toward Chris Sale.  I am hearing the Nats are more willing to move those two for Sale due to the fact he is still a top five starter and has two options years after 2017.  Plus Sale is not showing any decline unlike McCutchen who was disturbing in 2016 with his drop across the board.
