FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: YOAN MONCADA NOT ON TABLE FOR JOSE ABREU

By Michael Wong

National Harbor, MD.--The Boston Red Sox have been quiet thus far in the hot stove season but that looks like it is about to change as they reportedly talked about first baseman Jose Abreu with the Chicago White Sox late Monday night.  Yoan  Moncada was a name that quickly surfaced as possible compensation but the Red Sox quickly put that to rest.  Still it seems like Abreu can be had at the right price and the Red Sox are intrigued.

Meanwhile the White Sox by all indications are ready to tear it all down as they continue to peddle Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, and Abreu.  The Sale talks are ongoing with the Washington Nationals and the request remains Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles.  The Nats might bite on that after not going there on Andrew McCutchen but that would be a clear "all-in" move that would could seriously come back to bite them if a World Series is not won.  Not to mention the ridicule.

-The St. Louis Cardinals remain the top potential suitor for Dexter Fowler but Curtis Granderson remains a target.  The Mets were asking for Trevor Rosenthal but the Cards apparently are not ready to give up on him just yet.

-Jose Bautista has been widely ignored so far.

-Speaking of the Mets, hearing Brad Ziegler could be signed by the end of the meetings.  A source saying he is most likely reliever to sign with them but there is stiff competition.

-Brian Cashman has pretty much given up on picking up a starter and instead is now focusing on Aroldis Chapman.  Both sides want a reunion but Cashman not keep on giving him six years.
