FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: CARDINALS WANT TO ADD OUTFIELDER BY END OF MEETINGS

By Michael Wong

National Harbor, MD.--The action is flowing fast here as Steve Pearce is a Blue Jay and Mark Melancon is a Giants (almost officially).  More to come.

-The St. Louis Cardinals are being a bit deliberate with their search for an outfielder but they talked trade with the Reds about Billy Hamilton and continue to exchange proposals with free agent Dexter Fowler.  They non-tendered Matt Holliday and saw him sign with the New York Yankees and so there is a spot to be filled there.

-Now that Mark Melancon predictably (like I reported over a week ago) has agreed to come to the San Francisco Giants, the chatter around Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman is reaching a fever pitch.  I was told directly from a Miami Marlins official that price is no issue when it comes to bringing aboard either guy.  In fact this source said going north of $100 million for Chapman is not a problem.

Meanwhile Wade Davis is becoming a hot topic in terms of a trade now that Melancon's signing has taken a big name off the board.  Davis is now longer in the K.C. Royals' plans since they have Kelvin Herrera and the feeling is that his rough delivery is a Tommy John surgery waiting to happen.

-The Cardinals have spoken to the Mets more then once on Curtis Granderson but they have no interest in Jay Bruce.  The Blue Jays are the one team heavily in on Bruce thought but a matchup with the Mets is not working out so far according to a source connected to the New York front office.

-The Los Angeles Dodgers want in on Andrew McCutchen and the Washington Nationals are in danger of letting this slip away as the Texas Rangers sense an opportunity here as well.
