The San Diego Padres finally found a taker for veteran catcher Derek Norris on Friday as they sent him to the Washington Nationals for RHP Pedro Avila. The move signals that the Nationals have closed the door on a possible Wilson Ramos return and thus puts the latter on the market to entertain offers at the winter meetings. As far as Norris is concerned, he comes off a 2016 campaign when he hit a horrible .186 but at the same time put up a decent 14 home runs in 415 at-bats. Still Norris is just 27 and just starting to begin his prime years and he has now hit 14 home runs each of the last two years. A .233 career average speaks to the limitations here as Norris really is just an NL-only catcher but the bigger story is the fact Ramos will have a new team in 2017 after he recovers from last year's torn ACL in his knee.
