With MLB and the Players Association having hammered out a new five-year CBA extension, trades and free agent signings are expected to explode leading into and during next week's Winter Meetings now that teams now what the luxury tax threshold is. Big-market teams like the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees in particular have held back early this winter with an eye on the luxury tax and now that the number is know, are expected to begin working toward trades and signings at a high rate. That means prime free agents like Ian Desmond, Edwin Encarnacion, Rich Hill, Carlos Beltran, and Mark Trumbo will be finding new homes soon; while trades involving Andrew McCutchen are also expected to be thrown around.
