On the heels of trading for Chicago White Sox ace SP Chris Sale, the Boston Red Sox were back at late Tuesday when they came to terms on a free agent deal with first baseman Mitch Moreland. The Gold Glover comes off a 2016 campaign with the Texas Rangers where he hit 22 home runs with an ugly .233 average.
Analysis: Moreland will be the 1B/DH replacement for David Ortiz and it is a bit of an underwhelming one at that. While Moreland has decent pop, his average is quite rough and his struggles against righties (.221 last season) are pronounced. He is nothing but a backup first baseman in 2017 fantasy baseball.
