2017 FANTASY BASEBALL PLAYER ANALYZER: JOSE ABREU 1B CHICAGO WHITE SOX

It was a bit of a winding path but Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu pretty much supplied the expected numbers for his mid-first round grade in 2016 fantasy baseball.  The Cuban masher had to get on his horse though in the second-half of the season to get there as he was uncharacteristically quiet in the first half.  What needs to be noted though is that Abreu has slipped in the home run department after cracking 36 as a rookie; dropping to 30 and then 25 long balls the last two seasons.  Be that as it may, Abreu made it 3-for-3 in 2016 with regards to reaching the 100-RBI mark and his .293 average was right where it should be when examining his advanced numbers.  While you would like to see Abreu walk more (6.8 BB/9) he separates himself from other slugging first baseman in terms of not being an easy guy to whiff (career-best 18.0 K/9 last season).  While the mid-first round grade is not likely to be repeated this season, Abreu seems like a very safe investment no matter where you get him considering his already impressive numbers and the fact he is in his prime at the age of 30.
2017 PROJECTION:  .297 27 HR 104 RBI 79 R 1 SB
