Here are the final fantasy football running back rankings for 2016 with an eye toward 2017.

1.  David Johnson:  No off-the-field trouble and durability give him the nod over Elliott and Bell.
2.  Le'Veon Bell
3.  Ezekiel Elliott:  Need some more receptions next season to make him a complete beast.
4.  Jordan Howard:  Absolutely love this kid.  Could be the next David Johnson.
5.  DeMarco Murray:  Could be more of a committee next season with improving Derrick Henry.
6.  LeSean McCoy:  Inching up there in age but McCoy looks still going strong.
7.  Jay Ajayi
8.  Melvin Gordon:  Still not completely sold on Gordon but 2016 showed good signs.
9.  Bilal Powell:  Here is me saying the New York Jets cut Matt Forte and use Powell as bellcow back next season.
10. Devonta Freeman
11. LeGarrette Blount
12. Todd Gurley:  A mulligan for 2016 could be in order but Gurley needs to re-prove himself to get back to upper-tier status.
13, Lamar Miller:  Miller was a decent bust in 2016 as he showed little burst and averaged just 4.0 per carry.  Could be decent bounce back candidate but many will be leery.
14. Mark Ingram:  Actually posted a career-best 5.1 per carry but it is always something with Ingram that derails his overall value (Tim Hightower, injuries).
15. Spencer Ware
16. Carlos Hyde:  Injuries, injuries, injuries.
17. Latavius Murray
18. Kenneth Dixon
19. Dalvin Cook:  Love the potential of this Florida State Le'Veon Bell clone.
20. Rob Kelley
21. Paul Perkins
22. C.J. Anderson
23. Thomas Rawls
24. Terrance West
25. Tevin Coleman
26. Jeremy Hill
27. Jonathan Stewart
28. Leonard Fournette:  Worried about Forunett's big body (long list of running back busts with same body type) and college injuries).
29. Isaiah Crowell
30. Matt Forte:  Looks like Forte is past the "cliff" when it comes to age, injuries, and declining numbers.
31. Doug Martin:  Already docked 3 games for 2017 and numbers horrific when he played last season.
32. C.J. Prosise
33. Danny Woodhead
34. Ty Montgomery
35. Dion Lewis
36. Adrian Peterson:  The end is near.
37. Jamaal Charles
38. Theo Riddick
39. Devontae Booker
40. Giovani Bernard
41. Ryan Mathews
42. Chris Ivory
43. Jerick McKinnon
44. Zach Zenner
45. James White
