FANTASY BASEBALL TRADE FALLOUT: HOWIE KENDRICK GETS FRESH START IN PHILADELPHIA

Another one of our favorites, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Howie Kendrick really struggled badly with the bat in 2016.  Always one of the best value plays at second base throughout his career, what you always loved about Kendrick was the way he contributed in all five standard ROTO categories without blowing up any one of them which helped keep the cost down.  2016 was not one of those years though as Kendrick's always good batting average sank to .255.  It was a staggering drop in that Kendrick batted at least .285 in his nine of his previous 10 MLB seasons.  A neutral .301 BABIP showed that Kendrick's average was no fluke and so at the age of 33, we can start to surmise that some erosion is at work here.  While his 8 home runs and 10 steals were pretty much in line with his career numbers in those categories, the Dodgers were only playing Kendrick on a part-time basis the second half of the year which spoke to their concerns about his production.  Kendrick still does a nice job drawing walks (9.2 BB/9) and his 17.7 K/9 was also very solid, which means a mini-bounce back could be in order for 2017 now that he gets a fresh start in an offensive park with the Phillies
