Veteran starter Jeremy Hellickson accepted the $17.2 million qualifying offer from the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, serving as the first and maybe the only player who will do so. Hellickson comes off a decent 2016 campaign where he pitched to a 3.71 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and struck out 154 batters in 189 innings.
Analysis: That is a lot of dough for a guy who is an SP 5 on most teams. It made it a no-brainer for Hellickson to accept as he gets paid way above his grade but for just one season. As far as 2017 fantasy baseball is concerned, he has more value in NL-only formats and again will eek out SP 5 value in mixers given the lack of strikeouts.
