FANTASY BASEBALL GM MEETINGS REPORT: GIANTS TO OPEN VAULT FOR CLOSER

By Michael Wong

Scottsdale, Ariz.--The GM Meetings continue here in the desert and more rumors and reports are flying around.

-The San Francisco Giants are determined to address the closer role for 2017 this winter and the team is prepared to open the money vault for one of the top free agents among Kenley Jansen, Mark Melancon, and Aroldis Chapman.  The Giants blew a ton of saves last season and ninth inning volatility helped derail their World Series hopes.  I am hearing Jansen is the one they are targeting more than the other two.

-The Chicago White Sox were the talk of the lobby Tuesday night when GM Rick Hahn didn't deny the possibility of a complete rebuild.  Hearing multiple reports that they will listen on Melky Cabrera, Jose Quintana, and ace Chris Sale.  Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been connected to Sale in the past but the cost figures to be very high.  Cashman won't surrender Gleyber Torres if Hahn asks to try that route.

-Basically there is a possible merry-go-round at DH among the Blue Jays, Orioles, and Red Sox centering on Edwin Encarnacion, Kendrys Morales, Mark Trumbo, and Carlos Beltran.  Figure three of these four will operate those spots for those teams.

-The Atlanta Braves continue to talk to the Tampa Bay Rays about ace Chris Archer and with the Yanks concerning Brian McCann.  Hearing that is McCann is shipped out, Cashman will go heavy after Morales as an affordable DH option and they also have not closed door on a one-year Beltran return.

-Howie Kendrick is likely to be dealt as he wants no part going back to the Dodgers where he chafed under his 2016 role.
