New York Mets second baseman Neil Walker accepted the one-year $17.2 million qualifying offer from the team on Monday, ensuring his return for the 2017 season. Coming off of back surgery, Walker was not likely going to come close to that yearly salary on the open market and he can now show that his back in top shape and take another crack at it next winter.
Analysis: This works for both sides since the Mets don't have to invest heavily in here without seeing how walker's back responds from the surgery and like we said, the player gets a big salary boost for one season. Walker is a solid and underrated fantasy baseball second baseman who is capable of 20 home runs and 80 RBI but there is no speed to be had.
